Going green?

Wood is the natural choice: renewable, recyclable, reusable. No chemicals and less energy required than other building products.

Lead Free. Water based Finish. Urea formaldehyde free.

No wood is wasted! Ever!! Wood waste is converted to heat for our plant or sold to be converted into other building products. Everything is used.

Our hardwood lumber is harvested using selective cutting on a sustained yield basis. Trees naturally regenerate ensuring our forests remain for future generations of customers and employees.

Commonwealth Plywood invests $3 million annually in reforestation and other forest improvements.

ACCORDING TO HOW LONG THINGS LAST,

a study conducted by the National Association of Home Builders, wood floors are rated to last 100-plus years. No other available flooring option lasts as long, which means flooring alternatives will need to be replaced sooner, using more resources to produce, costing more money to purchase new materials and creating more landfill waste to discard the old, worn-out flooring.

Wood flooring is the most renewable flooring material available. Nonrenewable building materials must be produced in man-made factories. This requires large inputs of fossil fuels, resulting in high carbon dioxide emissions. In other words, all other possible flooring options are more harmful to the environment than wood.

  • Average annual net growth for hardwoods is greater than average annual removals.
  • Indoor air quality is better with wood floors.
  • Wood is carbon-neutral product that produces oxygen during its growth cycle and stores carbon during its service life.
  • Wood floors use less water and energy to produce than other flooring options.
  • Wood floors last a hundred years, so it will not need to be replaced as often as other flooring options.
  • At the end of its service life, wood flooring can be burned as fuel or recycled.

While it takes most hardwood trees 40 to 60 years to mature, the inventory planted today will not be needed for over 100 years.
